Dawn Phillips

Dawn, who has been with Frames Unlimited for nine years, manages our Westlake, Ohio location in Jefferson Square. "I love the diversity of my job," Dawn says. " After nine years, I'm still learning new things. My staff feels like family and I am truly blessed to have every one of them working beside me."

In my spare time, I make dichroic fused glass jewelry. I started working with glass about ten years ago when I decided to make my first stained glass piece for a window in my front door. The reflections of light on glass fascinated me and soon I took up bead making. While working with glass and fire, I stumbled onto dichroic glass (a glass made of multiple micro-layers of metal oxides originally developed by NASA for use in satellite optics). I was captivated by the reflection and transmission of light once again. Buying a small kiln, I went to work with very little knowledge at the time. Since then, I have shown and sold my jewelry in Mac Worthington Gallery in Columbus, Ohio as well as in our annual Frames Unlimited Associate Art show."

"One of my most memorable framing jobs was for Youngstown Memorial Outpatient Hospital. When I delivered to them several large shadowboxes displaying medals from each branch of service, it prompted many people to share their stories of being in the service. One gentleman swore he had more "holes" (bullet hole wounds) than a slice of Swiss cheese and proceeded to explain how he had received each one! It was so nice to see how proud everyone was of these display cases we had created and how much it meant to the men and women who've served our country."
